Answer: Who killed Ralph?

Posted on March 5, 2010 · Leave a Comment

I know, I know – you’re waiting on the edge of your seat for me to post the answer to last weeks riddle.  Well, here it is…

Ricky is the one who killed Ralph.
You need to take turns assuming someone is the killer; that means everyone’s second sentence is a lie. If Ronny was the killer, Bobby’s lie mixed with Ricky’s counteracts the other. If Bobby was the killer, Mike would need to be a killer too. If Mike was the killer, Bobby and Ricky counter each other again, but with Ricky, everything would fit.

Now that you know how to solve these types of riddles, you shouldn’t have much trouble with them in the future, right?  OK, here’s the next one…

Ronny, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, and Ralph are brothers. One day, one of them broke an apartment window. When their father asked them who did it, they gave the following answers:
Ronny: “It was Bobby or Ricky.”
Bobby: “It was neither Mike nor me.”
Ricky: “Both of you are lying.”
Ralph: “No, only one of them is lying.”
Mike: “No, Ralph, you are wrong.”
Then their mother added: “Three of my sons are telling the truth, but I do not believe what the two others said.”

While overall viewership of the 2010 Winter Olympics remained typically high, it seems that a larger than usual percentage of viewers were (or will soon be) eligible for free coffee at McDonald’s.

A recent Nielsen study shows that primetime ratings among the 55 and up crowd are 82 percent higher than the national average.  While that may sound like something for NBC to cheer about, it’s not necessarily great news – unless you’re BENGAY.  Olympic advertisers pay a premium to reach valuable younger viewers.  Besides a ratings boost among seniors, the Nielsen study also showed that ratings among teens were conversely 57 percent lower than average.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against seniors.  One day I hope to become one.  But from a television ad sales standpoint, that’s just not where the money is.  Seniors are usually settled in their lives and don’t sway from their brand loyalties.  An advertisement or commercial is much less likely to influence a senior than a teen or a young adult.

So what does this tell us?  Are the games just not resonating with the youth anymore?  With a gazillion different networks, websites, game consoles, VOD and even mobile phone applications, we all have more entertainment options than ever before.  Many youth are just too preoccupied to care about sitting still in front of the TV to watch mostly faceless sports.  I can see where they’re coming from.  I’m all for cheering on the USA, but does curling even have an All-Star game to go to?

Ok, call me crazy but this HAS to be one of the coolest things I’ve seen on the Internet.  After watching the video, I did a little research and found out that it’s called “Space Printer” and it’s engineered by a Japanese company called KOEI Aquatic.  This is easily the most creative thing I’ve ever seen done with water.  Enjoy!

Who killed Ralph?

Any one who has gone to law school is probably familiar with logic puzzles.  They’ve been a part of the LSAT for many years now.  I haven’t done one in quite some time but I used to be pretty good at them.

Here is one for you to try.  Post your answer as a comment.  I’ll put up the correct answer next week.  Let’s see who has the real logical minds are in Metro 67. =)

Ralph has been killed and Johnny is on the case. He has interviewed the four suspects and their statements are shown below. Each suspect has said two sentences. One sentence of each suspect is a lie and one sentence is the truth. Help Johnny figure out who the killer is.

Ronny: I did not kill Ralph. Either Bobby is the killer or none of us is.
Bobby: I did not kill Ralph. Mike is the killer.
Ricky: I did not kill Ralph. Bobby is lying when he says Mike is the killer.
Mike: I did not kill Ralph. If Ronny did not kill him, then Bobby did.

Are You a Digital Dumper or Dumpee?

Posted on February 25, 2010 · Leave a Comment

dumpedAccording to a recent poll, “digital dumping” is fast becoming the method of choice for tech-savvy daters who want to rid themselves of unwanted mates.

The poll, as reported by Reuters, surveyed 2,000 tech-savvy daters.  Of the group:

  • 34% choose to end their relationships via e-mail
  • 13% notify their ex by changing their status on Facebook
  • 6% broadcast their breakup with a tweet on Twitter
  • 2% give notice by text messaging

What are your thoughts on this trend?  In my humble opinion, “digital dumping” – in most cases – is a spineless move.  You must have at least liked or respected the person at some point if you entered into a relationship with them.  You should at least show them the sincerity that comes with direct eye contact if you’re going to let them go.  Right?  And if distance is an issue, a phone conversation should suffice.  Of course there are exceptions to every rule.  If you’re soon-to-be ex is just plain psycho and you fear for your safety, then text away and feel free to wash your hands of the situation.

At least one blogger out there agrees with me:

If you have a real relationship with someone, where most of your interactions are in person, then breaking-up should also be done in person.  You owe that to them. However, if it’s a digital relationship, then you can break up digitally!  Some things are just too important and personal to be left to tweets and text messages.  Would you e-mail you’re husband to let him know you’re pregnant?  Should your doctor Facebook you to let you know that you have cancer? – tokyobilly

What say you?  Have you ever received a digital Dear John letter?
